Who We Are

Having been born into a very musical Salvation Army family in Melbourne, Sharon’s natural gifts became evident early, performing as a soloist from the age of six. Coming from a heritage that intertwined anything music with life, she threw herself into musicals from the age of nine leading on to directing her first musical at the age of 17. From age 15 she was also a lead singer for Melbourne’s “Solid Rock Big Band” performing at all the big venues. To round off a musical kaleidoscope, in 1978 Sharon toured England, France and Japan for five weeks with the Melbourne Youth Choir, where her love of choral music was nurtured and took hold.

In 1980 Sharon married Howard and moved to South Australia, travelling extensively within Australia and Overseas as a Gospel Singer, recording two solo albums, one locally and the other in the US.

Over the last 35 years Sharon as has lead numerous choirs, currently Musical Director/Director of Soul Factor Gospel Choir and six Public Primary Schools Festival of Music choirs, which brings her so much pride and joy.

Sharon and Howard began Soul Factor in 2000 and have had a wonderful, interesting and varied journey as the choir has developed from their traditional choral concerts to full scale Theatre Musicals, Broadway presentations and various away trips. To top off this adventure, what a thrill it has been to have all four of their very talented children journey with them as they have all been active members of the Soul Factor Family since its inception.

In Sharon’s “Spare” time she bakes her very popular “Sharon’s Choice“ Home Made Biscuit’s and absolutely loves her role as Nana to her beautiful Grandchildren - Bella, Hudson, Eva and Harriet.
